Having just released A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build, what’s next? That’s the question a lot of people are asking me and there’s a few different parts:
- I’ll be working on mobile ports of A Good Snowman and Sokobond: hopefully they’ll both be done this year.
- I’ll continue making smaller games for my Patreon.
- And maybe I’ll start some exciting new projects? With exciting new people?
But what projects would those be? My bigger projects so far have kinda just happened and I don’t really want to change that vibe. Knowing who’s potentially interested in collaborating with me would help me make those decisions though.
So! Are you interested in working with me in any of the following ways?
- Polishing some non-puzzle games and porting to mobile.
I have a few older projects that I think would work well on iOS/Android, but polishing them from jam game to something great is a bigger time commitment than I’d want to do on my own.
For this I’d ideally be looking for someone with strong artistic design skills, who can also code. Optional: being a fan of BRICK[bricksmash]SMASH or Shit Snake.
This would be compensated by rev-share. The design for these games is mostly in place but I’m still looking for someone to work with rather than finding someone to work for me. - Making a new jam game.
We could make a jam game over the course of a weekend/week. Either for a specific game jam or just picking something we want to make a game about. - Expanding some of my Puzzlescript games into a larger version.
I’ve made several of these now, some of which would be more suitable to expanding than others. I’m not sure this is something I want to do but if you’re enthusiastic about the possibility then let me know. - Working with a producer.
Things I could use a hand with: miscellaneous admin; managing PR/marketing stuff; applying for grants/other sources of income. I’m told that’s what a producer does? This would be a very part-time thing I think, maybe one day a week or less. - Your existing project: playtesting/feedback.
People tell me that I give useful feedback - I can give detailed critique of how and why something doesn’t work and I won’t hold back to avoid hurting your feelings. In particular I think I’m pretty good at critiquing game feel, UI design and puzzle design.
If you’re working on a funded project, I’d want payment but my rates would be pretty affordable. As long as I don’t hate your game I could look at a new build every two weeks/every month or so, or as frequently as makes sense for you. I’ll write up a detailed list of feedback/suggestions and chat with you about them.
If you’re working on a non-commercial game I’m generally happy to do this for free (especially if you catch me at an event) but I’ll probably give slightly less detailed feedback. - Your existing project: level design.
I would need to like your game a lot to be interested in this. - Something else entirely?
I’m open to other suggestions.
I would particularly love to work with individuals from marginalised backgrounds, so if that applies to you then please get in touch. I recognise that not everyone has the same privileges that I do and I’d like to help improve that in some minor way by normalising your presence in the industry and signal-boosting your work.
